HC Deb 21 October 1946 vol 427 c1299
43. Sir F. Sanderson

asked the Minister of Supply whether in respect to the discussions which are taking place with the Motor Industry and Research Association in regard to a proving ground for the motor industry, he will see that the lay-out will include a place where machines can be tested at high speed for long periods.

Mr. Wilmot

This requirement will be borne in mind in the selection of a site for the proposed proving ground.

Sir F. Sanderson

Is the Minister aware that unless these facilities are provided quickly, there will be no chance of British manufacturers winning any of the races held on the Continent next year, and, if they are unable to do so, it will be to the detriment of the British manufacturers and to the advantage of the Continental manufacturers?

Mr. Wilmot

Yes, Sir, I have been so advised.
