HC Deb 16 October 1946 vol 427 c874
14. Mr. Gammans

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if any recommendations have been made by his Ministry to the B.B.C. that there should be a weekly commentary on Colonial Empire affairs on the Home Service in the same way as there is an American commentary.

Mr. Creech Jones

I am not sure that anything exactly analogous to the American commentary would be the most appropriate means of representing Colonial affairs in the several broadcast services, but this matter is at present the subject of discussion between the Colonial Office and the B.B.C. and I understand that the latter are hoping to introduce a regular series of talks about developments in the Colonial Empire.

Mr. Gammans

Will the Minister make definite recommendations that it is the wish of the vast majority of people in this country that they should hear something about the Colonial Empire and not merely about foreign countries?

Mr. Creech Jones

I think the hon. Gentleman may take it that those representations have been made.
