HC Deb 16 October 1946 vol 427 cc873-4
7. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what considerations guided him in selecting the personnel for the recently appointed Colonial Development Council.

Mr. Creech Jones

The main consideration by which my predecessor was guided was the need to assemble, within a small and workmanlike body, men who between them would command wide experience of practical affairs. With the additional appointments which I hope to announce shortly, I trust the Council will be fully equipped for its task.

Major Cecil Poole

Is the Minister aware that the appointment of people who are opposed to Socialism to implement a Socialist policy is causing grave concern amongst many people?

Mr. Pickthorn

The one-party State.

Colonel Ponsonby

If there are any additional appointments will the Minister consider people with business training who have knowledge of the Colonies?

Mr. Creech Jones

That is very much in my mind.
