HC Deb 20 November 1946 vol 430 cc836-7
26. Mr. Morley

asked the Secretary of State for Air how many of the applicants for commissions in the new education branch of the R.A.F. were able to satisfy all the conditions laid down by his Department for appointment to permanent and short-service commissions in that branch, respectively.

Mr. de Freitas

All the 131 applicants for permanent or temporary commissions, and 44 of the 81 applicants for short service commissions have the necessary age and academic qualifications. The applicants are now being medically examined.

Mr. Morley

Is my hon. Friend satisfied that he can make up his full establishment in this branch of the Service?

Mr. de Freitas

I am hopeful, but there is a great shortage of teachers. We have many vacancies.
