HC Deb 20 November 1946 vol 430 c836
25. Mr. Niall Macpherson

asked the Secretary of State for Air why it is in tended to close down his Department's unit at Locharbriggs, Dumfries, and to disband 18 Maintenance Unit; on what grounds this decision has been taken; and when it will become operative.

Mr. de Freitas

This unit is one of a number of maintenance units which we are having to close down as we reduce the Royal Air Force from its wartime strength. It is less suitable for retention than other maintenance units, and we shall probably close it down about November, 1947.

Mr. Macpherson

Does that mean that there will be no maintenance unit in Scotland?

Mr. de Freitas

I would not like to say that. We have always looked after Scotland, and there will be other places in Scotland where there will probably be maintenance units.
