HC Deb 05 November 1946 vol 428 c1192
12. Mr. Chamberlain

asked the Minister of Works what arrangements are in force for a service of mobile canteens for building trade operatives working in localities in which no other meals service is available.

Mr. Tomlinson

There is no general service of mobile canteens operative throughout the building industry and contractors-make their own arrangements for providing meals for men in isolated areas by means of mobile canteens or otherwise.

Mr. Chamberlain

Will the Minister bear in mind the very great difficulties under which these men work in isolated conditions of this kind, and will he use his good offices to encourage contractors to give this very necessary service?

Mr. Tomlinson

Yes, Sir. We have been doing that through the Consultative Committee.
