§ 46. Mr. Blackburnasked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the exaggerated impression now prevailing as to the extent of the recent espionage, he will issue a statement with a view to making it plain that no more than a small fraction of the total of the secret U.S. and British information available with respect to atomic energy can have been involved.
§ The Prime MinisterI have nothing to add to the reply which I gave to the right hon. Gentleman the Member for Warwick and Leamington (Mr. Eden) on 19th February.
§ Mr. BlackburnWhile in no way asking the Prime Minister to comment upon matters that are sub judice, may I ask him to bear in mind that he would allay a very great deal of anxiety if he would make it plain that the details of the construction of the atomic bomb have not in any way been involved in the case?
§ 47. Mr. Blackburnasked the Prime Minister whether it is the intention of His Majesty's Government to introduce domestic legislation similar to the U.S. McMahon Bill for the control and development of atomic energy.
§ The Prime MinisterThe question of legislation for the control and development of atomic energy in this country is under consideration.
