HC Deb 04 March 1946 vol 420 cc28-9
61. Colonel Erroll

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the increasing difficulty in obtaining pig products, he will encourage the formation of further pig clubs and give practical assistance to individuals wishing to keep a pig for their own consumption.

Mr. T. Williams

In view of the impending reduction in the rations of commercial pig keepers, I do not regard the present as a suitable time to give additional encouragement towards an expansion in the numbers of pig clubs or of domestic pig keepers, which would lead to an increased demand on the reduced supplies of rationed feeding stuffs.

Colonel Erroll

Does the hon. Gentleman realise that a large amount of waste food will go completely to waste in view of this?

Mr. Williams

Not if commercial pig keepers will collect the waste food and use it for the upkeep of their pigs.
