HC Deb 16 July 1946 vol 425 c1022
3. Lieutenant-Colonel Sharp

asked the Minister of Town and Country Planning what action, he is taking to assist in the opening up of new footpaths, such as the Pennine Way.

Mr. F. Marshall

By arrangement with the National Parks Committee, a special sub-committee of that Committee is being appointed to examine this and other related problems. I expect to announce the names and terms of reference in the course of a few days.

Mr. Skeffington-Lodge

Will the Parliamentary Secretary bear in mind that, although it is very desirable to open up new footpaths, there are a good many old ones and old byways which are at present completely closed, and will he use all his influence with the Service Departments to have them opened at the earliest possible moment?

Mr. Marshall

Yes, Sir; I can assure my hon. Friend that we are already doing that.
