HC Deb 16 July 1946 vol 425 cc1022-3
4. Mr. Sparks

asked the Minister of Town and Country Planning if he will give an assurance that in providing housing sites for the 10,000 workers expected to be transferred to London Airport, Heathrow, the claims of the constituent authorities of the West Middlesex Joint Planning Committee will not be superseded but will be treated with an equal degree of urgency.

Mr. F. Marshall

The question of the availability and allocation of housing sites is under urgent consideration and will be discussed at an early date with the local authorities concerned by my Department and the Ministry of Health, the latter of which is responsible for the allocation of available sites between the several authorities affected. The West Middlesex Joint Planning Committee is, at my request, making a survey of housing sites within its area.

Mr. Sparks

Is my hon. Friend aware that, if these 10,000 workers are provided for within the immediate vicinity of this airport, it will be a serious contravention of the planning standards of the area, and cannot he arrange for some of these workers to be accommodated outside the area of this London Airport, in the same way as the constituent authorities are being asked to rehouse their people many miles outside their own districts?

Mr. Marshall

My hon. Friend has, I believe, already received an assurance about the urgency of the housing needs in the area of the West Middlesex Planning Authority from the Minister of Health, to which I can add nothing at the moment.
