HC Deb 02 December 1946 vol 431 cc31-2
90. Mr. Murray

asked the Minister of Works what progress has been made with the conversion of the sick bay at the Bevin Hostel, Crook, County Durham, to a sorting room for the Post Office; and whether any decision has been made about the use of the other Departments in this valuable hostel now standing idle.

Mr. Tomlinson

A detailed scheme for the conversion of the sick bay at Crook Hostel has been prepared and the work will be put in hand shortly. The remainder of the hostel will be used for various Government purposes.

Mr. Murray

Can the Minister tell us when this work is likely to be completed? I raised this matter some months ago and it does not seem that much progress has been made. What is the position in regard to the last part of the Question? Is he aware of valuable machinery that is standing idle in the departments that are unused?

Mr. Tomlinson

I will do what I can to push it on.
