HC Deb 10 April 1946 vol 421 cc1924-5
57. Mrs. Middleton

asked the Minister of Food whether he will take steps to see that the margin of weight in vegetable and fruit products allowed by farmers and market gardeners to recompense retailers for loss of weight by shrinking and trimming is not treated as a rake off by the wholesalers in order to inflate middleman's profits.

Sir B. Smith

I am not aware that any allowance for shrinking and trimming available to the retailer can be abstracted by the wholesaler, but if my hon. Friend will let me have the particulars, I shall be pleased to look into them.

Mrs. Middleton

I will.
