HC Deb 07 November 1945 vol 415 c1279
52. Lieut.-Colonel Wheatley

asked the Minister of Food whether in view of the irritation and hardship caused to the public, he will investigate the supplies to hotels and restaurants who are able to obtain rabbits and other unrationed food in quantities which deplete supplies of these articles available in the shops.

Sir B. Smith

I am investigating the matter, but the evidence I have at present does not suggest that the quantity of unrationed food consumed in hotels and restaurants has any appreciable effect on the supplies available to the domestic consumer.

Lieut.-Colonel Wheatley

Is the Minister aware that this is becoming a burning question with housewives?

Mr. Gallacher

Why cannot the husbands of these housewives get their own rabbits?

Mr. De la Bère

Is the Minister aware that housewives have nothing to burn?
