§ 41. Mr. McKinlayasked the Under-Secretary of State for Air if it is the intention of the Government to close down R.A.F. meteorological offices where the work is predominantly civilian in character and where, in many instances, the stations are given over almost exclusively to forecasts for farmers.
§ Mr. StracheyLocal meteorological offices which are not required are being closed whether their work is mainly service or civilian. None of them gives forecasts for farmers. These forecasts are issued from the Central Forecast Station of the Meteorological Office.
§ Mr. McKinlayIs my right hon. Friend aware that the R.A.F. are performing the work of Colonial civil servants in British East Africa in these meteorological offices, and will he take steps to withdraw the personnel?
§ Mr. StracheyI must have notice of that question.
