§ 12. Mr. T. J. Brooksasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will now allow the purchase of window curtaining without having to obtain priority dockets which are only allowed at present to bombed out people and the newly married; and will he particularly consider this 610 matter in mining areas where there is much chemical action in the air which rots curtains in a short time.
§ Mr. DaltonI regret that, in view of the very limited supplies available, I cannot at present allow the sale of utility curtain material, except against priority dockets, or extend the classes entitled to these dockets. But, as I have already informed the House, I am arranging for the production of some lace and net curtains, for which dockets and coupons will not be required.
§ Mr. BrooksIs my right hon. Friend aware that a good deal of other kinds of material is being used for curtains which was used for other purposes and that it is useless in heavy chemical areas? In our part of the country it needs more frequent washing than in the South. I think my right hon. Friend might give priority in that respect.
§ Mr. DaltonI shall be glad to do so as soon as supplies are a little more plentiful.
