HC Deb 31 January 1945 vol 407 cc1451-2
51. Dr. Little

asked the Minister of Food whether he will make known at the earliest moment the increased price to be fixed for potatoes from Northern Ireland owing to the loss incurred by the wet season and other unfavourable circumstances over which farmers had no control.

Colonel Llewellin

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to him on 16th November, 1944.

Dr. Little

Does not my right hon. and gallant Friend recognise that growers of potatoes should receive an adequate return on the costs of production and the labour involved, as they are not having that now?

Colonel Llewellin

The prices of potatoes were fixed earlier in the year and a rise is due to-morrow.

Dr. Little

Does not my right hon. and gallant Friend recognise that since the price was fixed there has been a serious loss through frost and wet weather?
