27. Miss Wardasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware of the dissatisfaction of the London women police with their uniform; and will he take steps to see that it is as smart as the uniforms worn by women police in county areas and provincial cities.
§ Mr. H. MorrisonI cannot be certain what opinions are held by Metropolitan policewomen about their uniform, but I myself have come to the conclusion that it is, in a number of respects, capable of improvement. I intend that it shall be changed as and when this is practicable and I am in communication with the Commissioner of Police on the matter at the present time. I am anxious that a uniform should be provided which will be worthy in every way of this splendid body of women, to whose services to the country I should like to take this opportunity of paying tribute.
§ Lieut.-Colonel Sir Thomas MooreWhen he is considering this problem, will the right hon. Gentleman consider designing some more natty headgear?
§ Mr. MorrisonThe nattiness of the headgear is under active consideration.
§ Mr. Geor—e GriffithsAnd the feet-gear?
§ Mr. MorrisonDo not draw me too far.
