HC Deb 17 May 1944 vol 400 c181
52. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Food whether he will consult those engaged in the milk distributing trade before coming to a decision on the postwar plans for this business.

Colonel Llewellin

Yes, Sir.

53. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Food why the co-operative movement is able to retail milk all over London and the big cities while other retailers are confined to restricted areas.

Colonel Llewellin

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to the hon. Member for Bromley (Sir E. Campbell) on 22nd June last.

Sir W. Smithers

Will my right hon. and gallant Friend make inquiries from those engaged in the distributive trade, because they consider that they are not being at all fairly treated?

Colonel Llewellin

This arrangement was made after discussion with the retail dairymen and the co-operatives independently and with representatives of both at the Central Milk Distributors' Committee where it was approved.

Sir W. Smithers

And the co-ops won.
