HC Deb 17 May 1944 vol 400 c181
51. Mr. Boothby

asked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that the fish despatched from Aberdeen to Manchester, on 1st, 2nd and 3rd May, and subsequently condemned as unfit for human consumption, was landed in a stinking condition; whether he will take steps to prevent this happening in the future; and whether he will also take steps to prevent the wastage of valuable transport facilities, including fuel and rolling-stock, involved in hauling rotten fish about the country.

Colonel Llewellin

The answer to the first part of the Question is "No, Sir"; the remainder therefore does not arise.

Mr. Boothby

Is my right hon. and gallant Friend aware that I was in Aberdeen on 1st May and the stench was so appalling that no one could go near the harbour?
