HC Deb 17 May 1944 vol 400 cc181-2
54. Sir H. Williams

asked the Minister of Food, why, when it was decided to increase the sugar allocation of certain squash manufacturers, no steps were taken to make part of the additional supplies of sugar available to those squash manufacturers whose licences had been revoked.

Colonel Llewellin

The increased allocation to squash manufacturers to which my hon. Friend refers is not the result of an additional supply of sugar being made available to the industry as a whole, but is the result of a re-distribution among the established members of the soft drinks industry. No question arises, therefore, of making any allocation of sugar to firms who had no established pre-war usage.
