HC Deb 20 June 1944 vol 401 cc23-4
50. Mr. Mander

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the position with regard to the issue of franc notes in France; what responsibility for them, actual or potential, is borne by the British taxpayer; and in what form the consent of the House of Commons will be obtained.

51. Mr. Edgar Granville

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer which authority is responsible for printing and issuing the new franc at 200 to the£; and what bank or authority will be inscribed on the notes.

Sir J. Anderson

I must ask my hon. Friends to await the statement which will be made to the House in due course as promised by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister on 14th June.

Mr. White

Will the right hon. Gentleman at least assure the House that some arrangement has been made?

Sir J. Anderson

I must leave that until later; I cannot be more specific at present.
