44. Mr. John Dugdale

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport how many firms have consulted his Department as to the advisability of postponing their annual general meetings due to be held during May, June and July; in how many cases have they been advised to postpone them; and in how many has the Ministry's advice been accepted.

Mr. Noel-Baker

So far as I am aware, no firms have asked for my Ministry's advice about the postponement of their annual general meetings.

Mr. Dugdale

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that large numbers of companies have in fact held such meetings during the past few weeks, quite regardless of any consideration as to whether they might be interfering with transport for the Second Front?

Mr. Noel-Baker

I should be very glad to have from my hon. Friend details which involve irregular travel, but no doubt he will remember that some companies are under legal obligation to hold their annual general meeting at a certain time.
