HC Deb 07 June 1944 vol 400 cc1347-8
45. Mr. Molson

asked the Prime Minister whether he is now in a position to state the Government's decisions regarding the 1939–43 Star.

The Deputy Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee)

No, Sir. Active consideration is being given to the whole subject, but His Majesty's Government are not yet in a position to make an announcement.

Viscount Hinchingbrooke

Is my right hon. Friend aware that there have been no general awards to men who landed in Italy on 3rd September, 1943, and who have fought hard ever since? Will he commemorate the fall of Rome by giving early consideration to this matter and an early decision?

Mr. Attlee

That question will be brought to the notice of my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister. My Noble Friend will realise that the Prime Minister has been very much occupied recently.

Colonel Greenwell

May I ask the Deputy Prime Minister if his reply to the original Question is to be taken as meaning that the position of men serving in A.A. Command is also under consideration for this decoration?

Mr. Attlee

I think "the whole subject" will cover that.
