HC Deb 02 February 1944 vol 396 c1271
48. Mr. Thorne

asked the Minister of Food whether he can give any information in connection with the 7,000,000 tons of butter sent to this country from the Dominions and how it is being distributed.

Colonel Llewellin

I am afraid that the amount is 7,000,000 pounds not 7,000,000 tons. Had it been the latter, I could have discontinued the rationing of butter; as it is, it will be distributed in the normal way to meet the domestic ration.

Mr. Thorne

The newspapers are responsible for the figures. I must apologise for being wrong.

Colonel Llewellin

The error did not start with my hon. Friend; it was an error in some of the newspapers.
