HC Deb 23 September 1943 vol 392 c379
70. Mr. Craven-Ellis

asked the Minister of Health whether he intends to get the views of industrialists on the housing of their workers; and can he give any statistical evidence of the loss of efficiency in industry due to bad housing?

Mr. E. Brown

The answer to the first part of the Question is "Yes, Sir" and to the second part "No, Sir."

Dr. Edith Summerskill

When the right hon. Gentleman asks for advice from industrialists on housing, will he ask some women, because they will advise him not to put central heating in larders?

Mr. Brown

I am not asked about women here, but the fact is that the committee and sub-committees concerned have taken a mass of evidence not merely from individual women but from all kinds of organisations of women.

Viscountess Astor

How many women are on the committee?

Mr. Brown

Five on the main committee and an additional five on the subcommittees.

Viscountess Astor

And how many men?
