§ 6. Lieut.-Colonel Sir Thomas Mooreasked the Secretary of State for War what arrangements he has made, or has in mind, for the more general use of military bands during the coming summer months?
§ Sir J. GriggInstructions have been issued that bands should, as far as possible, take every opportunity offered by civil authorities to play in public. It must not, however, be forgotten that the primary duty of military bands is to play for the troops.
§ Sir T. MooreWhile thanking my right hon. Friend for his reply, as far as it went, may I ask whether he will not consider the greater use of bands marching with troops through the streets of our cities and towns? Would it not stimulate the morale of the troops themselves as well as that of the onlookers? That is what we want.
§ Sir J. GriggAs most of the movements between towns take place in motor vehicles, I do not think a band would look very well playing in two or three separate motor lorries.
§ Mr. Rhys DaviesWill bands be entitled to play the "Internationale"?
