HC Deb 30 March 1943 vol 388 cc10-1
7. Mr. A. Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is now in a position to state what steps have been taken to remove the hardships inflicted on the wives and dependants of soldiers under close arrest?

Sir J. Grigg

The present rules are about to be modified in order to allow the qualifying allotment from the man's pay to be paid to the family for the full period of his detention. I will communicate with the hon. Member as soon as the details have been settled.

Mr. John Dugdale

Will this apply to officers?

Sir J. Grigg

I would rather not be pressed further at the moment. The details have not been settled. I will make a statement when they are settled.
