HC Deb 08 June 1943 vol 390 cc516-7
15. Mr. De la Bère

asked the President of the Board of Trade what progress has been made in the design and manufacture of the utility radio sets; and whether he is now in a position to make a pronouncement as to the date they will be available to the general public?

Mr. Dalton

90,000 domestic wireless sets are still in process of manufacture, and these should be completed and released during this year. In addition to this, arrangements have been made to import supplies from the United States for early delivery. I have decided that, after the sets in process of manufacture have been completed, any new domestic sets made here shall be of simple standard designs. Discussions on this are now proceeding with the trade. No sets of this type could be available until next year.
