HC Deb 24 March 1942 vol 378 c1786
12. Lieut.-Commander Tufnell

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether, to allay anxiety and to prevent fruitless inquiries by relatives of members of the Forces missing at Singapore, or elsewhere in the Far East, he will give an assurance that, as soon as any news is received, an announcement will be made advising relatives how to inquire for news of missing persons, or how to send parcels and letters to them?

Mr. Sandys

When news is received of the whereabouts of missing soldiers the next-of-kin are immediately notified. As soon as there exists any means of sending letters and parcels to prisoners of war in Japanese hands relatives will be informed.

Lieut.-Commander Tufnell

Will my hon. Friend say whether these people are being decently treated and get European food?

Mr. Sandys

I cannot add anything to what has been said in previous statements.
