HC Deb 05 March 1942 vol 378 c785
16. Mr. Thorne

asked the Home Secretary whether he will arrange to put in a suitable home the five children of the woman who was charged at Weymouth police court, on Saturday, 28th February, and sent to prison for four months for neglecting them?

Mr. H. Morrison

I have been in communication with the court which dealt with the case to which my hon. Friend refers, and I am informed that the children are being brought before the local juvenile court with a view to arrangements being made for their welfare.

Mr. Thorne

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this is about one of the worst cases that has ever been reported, and that a child nine years old weighed only 32 lbs.?

Mr. Morrison

I said that appropriate action is being taken, and I have little doubt that the children will be properly cared for.
