HC Deb 05 March 1942 vol 378 cc785-6
17. Wing-Commander James

asked the Home Secretary whether, in prohibiting or curtailing boxing entertainments, regard will be had to the difference between programmes arranged by, or in conjunction with, the Services' authorities, whereby large sums are raised for charities and services funds, and entertainments organised upon an ordinary commercial basis?

Mr. H. Morrison

The point raised by my hon. and gallant Friend will certainly he borne in mind.

Mr. Shinwell

Will the right hon. Gentleman also consider the desirability of permitting entertainments of this kind to proceed as long as they do not place a heavy strain upon our transport facilities and other national resources?

Mr. Morrison

That factor is being kept in mind.

Sir H. Williams

Is not it just as important to provide amusement for the civilian population as well as for the troops?

Mr. Morrison

All relevant considerations will be borne in mind.
