HC Deb 04 March 1942 vol 378 c642
46. Sir A. Southby

asked the Prime Minister when he expects the work of the committee now inquiring into the "Scharnhorst" and "Gneisenau" action to be completed; and whether an opportunity will be given for a debate on their report?

The Lord Privy Seal (Sir Stafford Cripps)

The full report of the committee has not yet been received, but it is hoped to receive it to-day. As regards the question of a Debate, it is not possible until the report has been considered to add to what has already been said on this subject.

Sir A. Southby

Would the right hon. and learned Gentleman bear in mind that nothing has aroused public attention so much as the passage of these ships up the Channel, and that what can be told to the public as the result of the inquiry should, at least, be told?

Sir S. Cripps

I am quite sure my right hon. Friend will bear that in mind.
