§ 60. Mr. Thorneasked the Minister of Labour whether the young girls sent from their homes to various kinds of work are told what rate of pay they will receive and the number of hours that they will be expected to work; and whether billets are ready for them when they arrive at the place where they were ordered to go?
§ Mr. TomlinsonYes, Sir. All women who are sent to employment away from home through the agency of the Ministry are told the rates of pay and the hours of work. The arrangements are intended to secure that accommodation in lodgings, billets or hostels is available for them when they arrive at the place where they are to work.
§ Mr. McKinlayIs my hon. Friend aware that during their early training period some girls were left with only is. 9d. at the end of the week, after deductions had been made from their earnings?
§ Mr. TomlinsonYes, Sir. I am aware that what I would call mistakes took place, but I think my hon. Friend will agree with me that they were remedied.
