HC Deb 10 June 1942 vol 380 c1045
46. Sir Leonard Lyle

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, in view of his decision to set up an organisation to supply meat pies, sandwiches and other prepared foods to people in rural areas who are not able to have recourse to British Restaurants, he can give an assurance that no unnecessary competition with small shopkeepers in rural areas will be involved; and whether he will consider making it possible for persons in rural areas to obtain more food supplies than they now can from their local shopkeepers?

Major Lloyd George

As regards the first part of my hon. Friend's Question, steps to that end have been taken. As regards the last part, I am not aware that persons in rural areas are unable to obtain full supplies of rationed foods from their local shopkeepers, but I shall be pleased to consider any special cases which may be brought to my notice. So far as un-rationed foods are concerned, the Points Scheme is being extended to new foodstuffs at intervals in the present year and this is the most practicable method of remedying such inequalities of distribution as still exist.
