HC Deb 10 June 1942 vol 380 cc1044-5
31. Sir Charles Edwards

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of War Transport whether he has considered the long distances that milk is being brought to many places; and whether he will consider a rearrangement by which the distances could be shortened and much transport saved?

Mr. Noel-Baker

I would refer my hon. Friend to the White Paper on Milk Policy issued on 3rd June.

Mr. A. Edwards

Will this deal with the question I raised some time ago, of the carrying of milk 45 miles from Newcastle to Middlesbrough while there is a surplus of milk in Middlesbrough?

Mr. Noel-Baker

The scheme will deal with the whole question of the transport of milk, both retail and wholesale, and it is hoped that very large economies in transport will result.
