HC Deb 21 July 1942 vol 381 cc1387-8
17. Mr. Stephen (for Mr. Sloan)

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether his attention has been drawn to the criticism of the milk supplied to Glasgow from Ayrshire in a recent report to the county council from the Department of Health; whether he is aware that one of the reasons given by the county sanitary inspector is the fact that a number of milk inspectors have been called up by the military authorities; and whether he will make representations that the men be returned from the Army?

Mr. Johnston

The answer to the first two parts of the Question is in the affirmative. As to the third, the public health committee of the county council, on considering the report, recommended the county council to appoint three additional milk inspectors and two laboratory assistants.

Mr. Stephen

Does my right hon. Friend think that the release of those inspectors will be obtained?

Mr. Johnston

I cannot say; but I hope so.
