HC Deb 21 July 1942 vol 381 c1388
18. Mr. Stephen (for Mr. Sloan)

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether the regulation issued by the Board of Agriculture that artificially-heated glasshouses must, between 1st November and 28th February, be devoted only to tomatoes, lettuce, and mustard and cress, applies to Scotland, in view of the fact that Scotland is unsuited for this type of culture during the months named; is he aware that the prohibition placed on the production of flowers during these months will be a hardship on the small growers; and whether he will seriously consider the matter as far as it applies to Scotland?

Mr. Johnston

The Order to which I assume my hon. Friend refers was made by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, and apples only to England and Wales. No similar order has been made for Scotland, but the question of control of horticultural cropping in Scotland is at present under consideration. If it is decided to frame a general Order to deal with the subject, I will consider the particular points made by my hon. Friend.
