HC Deb 01 July 1942 vol 381 c210
62. Mr. Denman

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that diminished petrol supply will cause substantial waste of garden produce; and whether he will take steps to assist to organise the marketing of this produce in country areas where there are no women's institutes or like bodies?

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture (Mr. T. Williams)

Steps have already been taken through County Garden Produce Committees to set up Village Produce Associations in rural areas. One of the functions of the latter is to organise the local disposal of any garden produce which is surplus to the grower's own household requirements, through such channels as retailers and village market stalls or by sales to communal feeding centres, hospitals, schools, camps or otherwise.
