9. Mr. Hannah

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether his attention has been called to the fact that airmen have an insufficient number of coupons for the purchase of handkerchiefs, underwear, pyjamas, &c.; and will he take steps to remedy this grievance?

Captain Balfour

Commanding officers are authorised to issue to airmen needing handkerchiefs certificates which enable them to be purchased at retailers. I am at present in communication with my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade on the question of issuing coupons to enable airmen to buy pyjamas. Airmen have no need to purchase underwear, which is issued as required from store.

Have the Government taken any steps to make the wives of airmen acquainted with these provisions?

Captain Balfour

I think we may rely on airmen to make their wives acquainted with them.
