asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in the last two years, any reports were received from the British Minister at Bangkok indicating that the Government of Thailand might welcome Japanese military co-operation; and whether any steps were taken to meet that danger and to counteract Japanese influence in Thailand?

Mr. Law

Sir Josiah Crosby constantly drew attention to the danger constituted by Japanese pressure and the existence of pro-Japanese elements in Thailand. As regards the second part of the Question, His Majesty's Government naturally took such steps as lay in their power to counteract Japanese influence.

Have the Government received any evidence that the Japanese prepared dumps at Singora and other points in Thailand territory?

Mr. Law

I think I can say, "No, Sir."

Mr. Noel-Baker

But is it not a fact that dumps were prepared?
