HC Deb 02 December 1942 vol 385 c1139
27. Mr. Riley

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether paper for newsprint is controlled in Jamaica; and whether the supplies are rationed to consumers so as to secure a fair distribution among all newspaper concerns?

Colonel Stanley

So far as I am aware, the answer to both parts of the Question is in the negative. In order to save shipping space on the very congested Caribbean route, my predecessor earlier this year requested the Governors of the larger West Indian Colonies, including Jamaica, to introduce restrictions limiting weekly and daily issues of newspapers to a maximum of six pages per issue or 36 pages per six issues. These restrictions apply to all newspapers alike.
