§ 34. Sir Herbert Williamsasked the Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs what steps are taken to provide amenities for Dominion troops who visit London on leave?
§ The Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs (Mr. Shakespeare)Under the auspices of the Empire Societies War Hospitality Committee a number of centres have been set up in London, as in the Provinces, organised by various Empire Societies, which provide meals, parties, concerts, cinematograph exhibitions and entertainments of various kinds for members of Dominion forces on leave in London as well as recreation and writing-room equipment. A Central Information Bureau has also been set up which is able to direct men from overseas to the societies and clubs offering hospitality and other forms of help. I should like to take this opportunity of saying how much the work which has been done by the Committee and by the various Empire Societies has been appreciated. In addition to the above, there are a number of centres arranged by the Dominion military authorities themselves, and Dominion forces are, of course, welcomed with other British forces at many of the institutions specially arranged for the entertainment of troops on leave.
§ Sir H. WilliamsHave steps been taken to advise the Dominion troops when they arrive at railway stations in London where these various institutions are— work analogous to that carried on in the last war by the Overseas Forces Reception Committee?
§ Mr. ShakespeareI will make inquiries and let my hon. Friend know.
