HC Deb 25 November 1941 vol 376 cc591-2
61. Mr. Tinker

asked the Minister of Labour how many miners have returned to the mines under his direction; and can he give separate figures for Lancashire?

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour (Mr. Tomlinson)

Between 18th June and 17th November, 27,540 ex-miners have returned to coal mining employment in Great Britain. Of this number, 2,298 have been placed in mines in Lancashire and Cheshire. Separate figures are not available for the counties separately, but the majority were placed in Lancashire.

Dr. Russell Thomas

How many of these are face workers? That is the important point.

Mr. Tomlinson

I should want notice of that Question.
