HC Deb 20 November 1941 vol 376 cc448-9
37. Sir R. Young

asked the Minister of Health whether the compilation of the results of the fifth valuation of approved societies is sufficiently advanced to enable the following information to be given and, if so, will he state the number of valuations, members, total surplus, average surplus per member and benefit funds of friendly societies, with and without branches, respectively: industrial assurance and collecting societies, trade unions and employers' provident funds, or such part of this information as is now available?

Mr. E. Brown

It is expected that a short report by the Government Actuary, incorporating such statistics of the results of the fifth valuation of approved societies as it is practicable to furnish in present circumstances, will be available early next year. I regret that in the meantime, I am unable to furnish the information asked for by my hon. Friend.

Sir R. Young

Is not the right hon. Gentleman able to furnish any part of the information?

Mr. Brown

I would not say that, but it is best to have it in the fullest form in which we can give it, and we will do the best we can to make it ample.
