HC Deb 15 May 1941 vol 371 c1245
37. Mr. Lindsay

asked the Minister of Health what plans he has ready to provide increased accommodation, during the summer months. for persons evacuated from bombed areas?

Mr. E. Brown

If my hon. Friend refers by plans to the allocation of places in particular areas, I do not think it would be in the public interest for me to describe all the plans which have been and are being made. I have no reason to fear that accommodation will not be available for those whom it may be decided to evacuate in the course of the summer.

Mr. Lindsay

As we have already heard that there are 700 empty places which come under the Ministry of Health in camp schools and there are thousands of poor people outside the evacuation areas who are in very unsatisfactory conditions and who cannot use cars in which to get out, will the right hon. Gentleman consider some more adequate accommodation during the summer months? I do not ask for specific areas.

Mr. Brown

My hon. Friend is obviously dealing with a matter which goes much beyond my present responsibility. He has referred to the evacuation of classes of the population other than the priority classes for which I am responsible, and that is a very different issue.
