HC Deb 15 May 1941 vol 371 cc1245-6
18. Mr. Cecil Wilson

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that an air-raid warden in receipt of an average wage of £5 per week in regular employment receives when injured in his warden duties 35s. per week only; and whether he will take steps to put an end to the concern which this serious reduction causes to other wardens and the reluctance on the part of other persons to volunteer and run the risk of a similar fate?

Mr. H. Morrison

My hon. Friend is misinformed as to the position. A part-time Civil Defence volunteer who sustains a war service injury may receive compensation for loss of earnings for a maximum period of 13 weeks, in addition to the payments to which he is entitled under the Personal Injuries (Civilians) Scheme, provided that the total amount received by him or her each week from both sources does not exceed the basic pay of a whole-time volunteer.
