HC Deb 06 May 1941 vol 371 cc694-5
45. Sir Hugh O'Neill

asked the Prime Minister whether the Prime Minister of Australia has attended meetings of the War Cabinet since he has been in England; and whether he is expecting visits to this country from any other Dominion Prime Minister in the near future?

The Lord Privy Seal (Mr. Attlee)

Yes, Sir. During Mr. Menzies stay in this country as our guest he has attended meetings of the War Cabinet, and we have greatly profited by his counsel. As my noble Friend the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs announced in another place, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr. Fraser, is expected shortly to visit this country at our invitation. We shall much look forward to welcoming him here, and shall hope to have the benefit of his presence at meetings of the War Cabinet.

Sir H. O'Neill

May we take it that the announcement by the Prime Minister last week on the subject of an Imperial War Cabinet is not necessarily the last word on the matter?

Mr. Attlee

My right hon. Friend was replying then to a specific question which did not deal with the general question.

Mr. Granville

Will all the Dominion Prime Ministers be invited and encouraged to visit this country?
