HC Deb 06 May 1941 vol 371 c694
65. Mr. Wootton-Davies

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether there is any reason why the public should not consume sugar, as imported, to save the labour entailed in refining it?

Major Lloyd George

A proportion of imported sugar is already put into direct consumption. It is recognised that the amount going into direct consumption could be increased if the need arises and this possibility is kept under review.
