HC Deb 12 June 1941 vol 372 c317
19. Sir F. Fremantle

asked the Minister of Health what steps have been taken in accord with Recommendations 30 and 32 of the Select Committee on National Expenditure, in their 14th Report, for the wider use and co-operation of nurses attached to first-aid posts and hospitals according to respective temporary need?

Mr. E. Brown

I am not at present satisfied that the recommendations that compulsory powers should be taken are necessary or advisable.

Sir F. Fremantle

Can some steps be taken to see that greater use is made of these nurses, by interchange, according to requirements, as many are idle for months on end?

Mr. Brown

I am endeavouring to do everything possible to increase mobility. That is, of course, a different method of approach from the use of compulsion.
