HC Deb 23 January 1941 vol 368 c298
50. Mr. Craven-Ellis

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether the recent announcement to the effect that guaranteed prices for agricultural produce will continue for 12 months after the war may be more clearly defined by announcing that the 12 months will commence from the conclusion of the harvest in the year peace is signed, with a view to a long-term policy for agriculture being agreed with the industry before the expiration of the 12 months referred to?

Mr. Hudson

No, Sir. I should, however, like to make it quite clear that it is both the desire and the intention of the Government that the period covered by this guarantee should be utilised for the purpose of framing and putting into action a permanent post-war policy for agriculture designed to maintain that industry in a healthy and well-balanced condition.

Mr. Craven-Ellis

If my right hon. Friend does not come to any agreement with the industry, will he extend the guaranteed prices for 12 months?
